Aya El-Bawwab from Grade 12 and Mayar Akrameh from Grade 11 participated in Women to Women Leadership Conference and Cultural Exchange sponsored by Empower Peace held in Lesley University, Boston, Massachusetts bewteen August 9-16, 2008.
The conference was an opportunity for young women to interact with prominent women leaders from around the world (Middle East, Near East, and the United States) and meet national and international women leaders from Government, Business, Media and Entertainment sectors.
Professionals from Harvard University, Lesley University and Tufts University administered a series of workshops, keynote speeches and cultural outings, which helped participants acquire skills and insights on how to become future leaders.
More over, participants had the chance to learn about international diplomacy and public affairs through many authentic resources such as :
- Victoria Budson:
the Executive Director of Women and Public Policy at Harvard University- John F. Kennedy School of Government.
- Susan Hackley:
the Managing Director of the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School
- Swanee G. Hunt:
the former Ambassador of the USA to Austria
- Therese Murray:
Senate President at the Massachusetts State House
- James Roosevelt, Jr.:
the grandson of the former president of the United States of America
- James Glassman:
the Secretary General of Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs of the White House
This is one of the many efforts HHS II puts forth to help its students acquire leadership skills that enable them to make a difference in their communities.
