GC LAU MUN 8th Middle School Final Conference

The Model United Nations Program "MUN" is ana internationally known simulation the United Nations. The Lebanese American University, in association with the United Nations, launched its 13th High School & 8th Middle School Global Classrooms Model United Nations Programs in November 2017. 
This program aims at exposing the Lebanese youth to the United Nations culture of global Awareness and the implementation of peaceful means for conflict resolution. Students from all over Lebanon attend training sessions that culminate in a conference by bringing specialized speakers and through other sponsored events. 
Attending five training sessions on specific Saturdays from November till February increases the students cognition about the United Nations, rules of procedure in a United Nations Conference, research and interpretation skills, writing a position paper, public speaking and role playing, conflict resolution and negotiations, caucusing and resolution writing. 
By the end of these training sessions, the students will become diplomats of countries that take part in United Nations sessions simulations. 
The simulations occur over a two-day conference where students play the role if ambassadors in United Nations committees and discuss respective current worldwide topics such as poverty, renewable energy, refugees crisis, and many more global issues. 
Middle school Final Conference took place on Saturday, February 17th, 2018 and Sunday, February 18th, 2018 where delegates attended LAU Byblos and Beirut campuses from 9 a.m. Till 5 p.m. HHS II Middle School delegation represented the Democratic Republic of Korea through ten students in the following committees:
  • Judy Abdallah (Grade 7) represented the ECOFIN committee
  • Raseel Abla (Grade 7) represented the ECOSOC committee
  • Talia Ghalayini (Grade 7) represented the UNEP committee
  • Zakariya Khaywa (Grade 7) represented the UNESCO committee
  • Ayman Bohsali (Grade 7) represented the IAEA committee
  • Tamara Mouhtar (Grade 8) represented the UNDP committee
  • Kamar Taweel (Grade 8) represented the UNW committee
  • Lynn Halwani (Grade 8) represented the WHO committee
  • Sara Sinjaba (Grade 8) represented the ITU committee
  • Reem Youssef (Grade 8) represented the FAO committee
High School delegates' Final Conference will take place on March 3rd & 4th 2018. Best of luck to all delegates. Special thanks go to student advisors Mohammad Abboud (Grade 11), Reem Abdallah (Grade 11), and David Dabagh (Grade 12) who aaccompanied the degates along with Ms. Dina Akkawi (Extracurricular Activities Coordinator) and supported students with their genuine experience being former MUN and MAL  delegates.
